NEW LAWS FOR SLAUGHTERHOUSES.

The Hanoi City Veterinary Department, is clamping down on unhealthy practices at the city meat plants for poultry and pigs.

The market traditionally jumps by around 40-50 % at this time of the year coming up to th festivities for the Lunar New Year.

There are 41 licensed abattoirs in the city of Hanoi and in the provinces around the city 260,000 head of buffalo, 1.6 million pigs and 14 million chickens and hens that provide 80% of the meat requirements of the city.

The government have been implementing new laws over a period of years, to try to clean up the meat industry, from the days when farmers slaughtered the animals on the farms, with no meat inspectors or any checks and balances of any kind.


The latest purge is hoped to be instrumental in getting the meat industry, to change with the times.
