SWITCH FROM OFFAL TO BEEF.
For many years, Russia was the worlds best market for offal’s, livers, hearts, tripe and head-meat. Current figures show, a rapid decline in the import of offal and a large increase in red meat consumption.
This trend shows up in the US exports to Russia this year, with 28,000 tons of offal and beef exported for the first 6 months of 2008, including 10,700 tons of beef cuts of red meat. This compares with the same period last year, only 416 tons of cuts of red meat and 26,000 tons of offal.
This is quite normal as economies emerge, the rising numbers of middle class, prefer finer cuts of better quality meat.
South Africa is the new market for offal, where the economy is not traveling as well as many countries.
