Australia-Cattle Council say no to foot-and-mouth research.

AUSTRALIA.

No to foot-and-mouth live strains.

The proposals in Australia, to allow live strains of the foot and mouth virus, into the country for research are being very strongly opposed by the cattle industry.

The Cattle Council of Australia are up in arms over the proposal, saying that these proposals could have a damning long term effect on the cattle industry.

Unlike South America, where Brazil has 10 countries on its land borders and Argentina has 5 Countries, Australia enjoys a total sea boundary and by wise import restrictions has remained foot and mouth free.

Greg Brown of the cattle council, said "Allowing a live strain into Australia, would be the biggest folly the government could commit".

Brown said that government needs to do some explaining and correct the situation
