Argentina-35,000 tons of poultry for Russia.

ARGENTIA.

POULTRY FOR RUSSIA.

Russia will only take full poultry carcass from Argentina, it was announced in Moscow on Thursday by the Russian Department of Agriculture.

The reasoning behind the move, is the fear of Argentina dumping wings and drumsticks onto the market. The reason the poultry trade in Russia is so important to the United States, is the fact that the Russian take the cheap cuts or dark meat, leaving the white meat for premium markets at higher prices.

The Argentina Association of Poultry Producers, after consultation with Rosselkhoznadzor chief Sergey Dankvert, have proposed a quota of 36,000 tons of chicken carcass for 2009.

However it has been agreed, that Argentina will be allowed to increase this figure significantly in the future.
