More power, more choice with extended Landini Rex range

As one of the UK’s most popular specialist tractors for orchards and soft fruit production, the Landini Rex has already established a reputation for reliable performance.

Now, the range is expanding with the introduction of four additional power outputs – the extra-narrow Rex 90V and narrow-width Rex 90S with 83hp four-cylinder engine; the compact three-cylinder engined Rex 70F at 68hp and Rex 85F with 79hp; and the Rex 120F and GT with 110hp.

"This means we can offer growers seven power outputs in various width and wheelbase configurations to suit different growing situations, both outdoors and indoors, for fruit and nursery production," emphasises Landini area sales manager Steve Cann at distributor AgriArgo UK. "On top of recent design changes, adding the new models reinforces the Rex’s position as a class-leading tractor."

Details of the new models will be unveiled at Fruit Focus, the leading technical event for the fruit industry, being held at East Malling Research Centre, Kent on Wednesday 20th July 2011.

New electronic joystick option for the Landini Rex is moved forward and back or sideways to operate single functions or moved at an angle to activate two functions at once.

At 2017mm, the wheelbase of the three-cylinder newcomers to the Landini Rex line-up is more than 110mm (4.5in) shorter than on their four-cylinder counterparts. It reduces overall length and makes the machines more manoeuvrable in tight situations.

The Rex 120, powered by a 110hp version of the Perkins 1104D-44T engine, becomes the most powerful mechanical transmission ’fruit’ tractor from any manufacturer. It is available in ’F’ and longer wheelbase / wider track width ’GT’ configurations.

Latest versions of the ’F’ configuration Rex – which has twice won the ’specialist’ category of the Tractor of the Year awards, including the 2011 edition – has a tighter-steering front drive axle to further improve the tractor’s agility.

Electro-hydraulic engagement of the pto is now available on synchro shuttle models as well as with the power shuttle transmission, and a re-design of the main controls has improved the layout and made it easier to operate the hydraulic linkage, spool valves and three-point linkage.

"Another new feature is the electronic joystick and flow divider option that controls up to five remote hydraulic valves and therefore gives fingertip operation of several implement functions," notes Steve Cann. "Moved forward and back or sideways, it operates a single function, like extending or retracting a hydraulic cylinder. But if moved at an angle, the joystick activates two functions at once."

The main transmission choice for all Rex models is between a 15 forward, 15 reverse speed gearbox with synchro shuttle and a 30x30 unit with two-speed powershift and power shuttle shifting between forward and reverse.

Latest models are easily recognised by their new engine hood styling and larger air intake grilles, and the rectangular instead of round headlights.
