Long service award for Wyn Jenkins

Wyn Jenkins, NFU Cymru’s group secretary in Llanfair Caereinion, was presented with a long service award by David Jones, Montgomeryshire NFU Cymru County Chairman during a recent County Annual General Meeting.

Although Wyn’s role has changed somewhat over the years, he continues to look after the interests of the NFU Cymru farmer and grower members from his office in Llanfair Caereinion, he also promotes the service of NFU Mutual in Montgomeryshire.

When presented with the award Wyn said, "When I first started my role as a Group Secretary, nothing could have prepared me for what was in front of me! The best part of the role is going out and meeting with farmers face to face on their farms and being able to assist them with their business needs. I have been fortunate to have met many great characters over the years."

Wyn pays tribute to all his colleagues, past and present, who have played a big part in his career. He feels sure that agriculture will survive. "Farming is needed now, more than ever, especially with the threat of climate change and growing global demand for food. NFU Cymru will grow with it and champion farmers’ interests in the coming century," he said.

Congratulating Wyn, David Jones said, "Wyn has already dedicated a significant part of his working life to looking after the best interests of his members and with such experience understands what is important to enable farmers to make a success of their businesses."

"The industry has changed over the last quarter of a century but Wyn’s outstanding success is testimony to his ability to move with changing times and to meeting the challenges posed by change."

Wyn Jenkins, who lives near Llanfyllin, enjoys faming life on the farm with his wife Rhian and children Emma and Rhys.
