Gamebird code a 'victory' say CLA

The CLA has welcomed the Government’s redrafted "Code of Practice for the Welfare of Gamebirds Reared for Sporting Purposes", laid before Parliament today (22 July).

The Association said it was pleased the coalition had realised that the Code proposed by the previous Government was unworkable and had to be changed if it was to protect both the industry and gamebird welfare.

CLA President William Worsley said: "This is a victory for common sense. The industry worked towards a sensible Code under the last Government who then, without consultation, dramatically changed it.

"We are relieved that this has been put right and are grateful for the speed with which the new Government has taken our concerns on board and delivered. We now hope the Welsh Assembly Government will follow suit."
