Farmers for Action planning dairy protest in London

Dairy farmers have planned to march in London amid growing concerns over milk price cuts.

The following is the Farmers for Action extract it emailed to its supporters:

"We now have preliminary details of our proposed March.

Having spoken to the authorities in London, it will take place probably 2nd or 3rd week in March on a weekday, ending in Hyde Park whereupon a letter will be delivered to Prime Minister David Cameron on behalf of the farming community.

We are in the hands of the authorities, and cannot just go along and hope for the best, to be successful we have to work with them, and they will work with us, it takes a lot of organising on our part so please be patient whilst date and further details are confirmed.

One word of caution, we need at least 1,000 to attend and unless we are pledged this amount of support, it will not take place. So we would urge all interested parties to pass the information around to your relatives, friends, neighbours, ancillary businesses, etc., and lets make this happen."

This news comes as First Milk drops 'A' milk price.

Newly re-elected vice-Chairman Nigel Evans said: "Myself and the whole Board fully recognise the difficulties which this continued market slump is creating for our members across the UK.

Unfortunately, nobody is able to predict when global milk supplies will tighten or when markets will turn, in the meantime we remain 100% focused on running First Milk as efficiently and effectively as possible to maximise the market value that we can pass back to our members."
