Philip Brown has been appointed general manager of the recently formed Eastern Machinery Ring (EMR).

Philip (49) has worked in agriculture throughout the Eastern Counties since he left college and is therefore already known by many of the ring’s members – particularly in West Norfolk and The Fens where he worked in the agrochemical supply business for many years and latterly in potato production and agricultural contracting.

He is BASIS and FACTS qualified and has a City & Guilds qualification in agricultural engineering.

"As we all know the uncertainty in the agricultural market place and the burden of rising costs is putting increasing pressure on all concerned," said Mr Brown. "The Eastern Machinery Ring can help all members try and alleviate some of these concerns by optimising the use of existing machinery and experienced labour in an efficient and cost-effective way. My main objective is to ensure members work more closely with one another to achieve this."

The Eastern Machinery Ring was inaugurated in August as the result of a merger between Eastern Agri-link Ltd and Norfolk & Waveney Machinery Ring.

The ring now covers 750 members in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. Membership is increasing rapidly and the ring is meeting demands at a rate of more than 95%.
