An organic seaweed extract developed for farmers in the 1960s is having a resounding resurgence with orders pouring in across the globe.

Farmers in countries ranging from Spain to South Korea have placed record numbers of orders for the British seaweed extract known to improve crop yields and quality. SM6 Seaweed Extract also helps plants to withstand stress conditions such as late frost and drought, and users can reduce their spend on other inputs.

SM6, a highly concentrated liquid biostimulant with “Soil Association Approved” status, is particularly effective because of its 30% seaweed solids and its low pH composition. It has attracted an expanding clientele from across the UK to far-flung countries including China, New Zealand and Chile.

Michael Hedges, managing director of Chase Organics, commented: “Due to the unprecedented popularity of SM6 around the world, we’ve stepped up production to cope with the demand which has increased 60 per cent in two years.

We have a wealth of trials data that proves the effectiveness of SM6 Seaweed Extract, but the ever-increasing repeat purchases from users are also testament to its potency. Feedback from farmers is that SM6 increases profitability because it produces larger marketable yields, reducing costs of fertiliser, which is particularly important where there is a desire to reduce reliance on chemicals.

People often ask why countries on the other side of the world choose to buy from the UK rather than make their own extract from local seaweed. The answer is that the seaweed found in our native waters is particularly rich in the active ingredients that benefit crops and our unique formulation and processing method is able to preserve these in the highly concentrated end product.”
