Anglesey slaughterhouse future on the agenda

Farmers in Anglesey are to get an insight into progress on a variety of issues that affect them directly, including the future plans for the Welsh Country Food slaughterhouse, one of the biggest in Wales.

Guest speaker at the forthcoming NFU Cymru Anglesey branch meeting will be Prys Morgan, Lamb Procurement Controller at the Vion Group’s Welsh Country Foods at Gaerwen, who will answer members’ questions on future plans for the slaughterhouse, the supermarket bonus scheme and sheep electronic tag reading.

NFU Cymru members’ opinions regarding Welsh Government’s consultation on Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform, to be aired at the meeting early next month, will be vital for the way they and all Welsh farmers will be conducting their business for the foreseeable future

Deputy Minister for Agriculture Alun Davies has made it clear that the consultation is not a one-off exercise but part of an on-going process to stimulate and sustain dialogue for the coming few months.

Anglesey County branch Chair Christine Jones said, "We believe the European draft implementations will not be published for a few months, so here is our opportunity to help shape the future to our advantage. We must tackle European issues head on, particularly CAP and the latest developments on the Single Farm Payment."
