South Shropshire land sold for up to £11,563 an acre at a very successful auction of agricultural and residential property held by Kidderminster auctioneers Halls last week..
The property, which went under the hammer at the Gainsborough House Hotel, Kidderminster, included 10.5-acre Lapwing, Larches Lane, Oreton, near Cleobury Mortimer, which was sold in two lots.
The main lot, comprising a period stone and brick cottage with two bedrooms, an adjoining outhouse, a dilapidated former stone barn with improvement potential, a stone garden store and six acres of pastureland, sold for £265,000.
The second lot, comprising a 4.34-acre parcel of pastureland on the opposite side of Larches Lane to the cottage, attracted keen bidding and sold for £50,000 (£11,563 per acre).
Also on offer was a 67.78-acre block of fertile and productive arable and pastureland with a range of farm buildings at Wooton Farm, Wootton, near Bridgnorth, which sold for £442,000 (£6,521 per acre) after competitive bidding.
"This was one of the best blocks of land to come on the market in the area for some time," said Mr Sadler. "The farm buildings, although inadequate for the size of the unit, provided a basis for a farming enterprise."

The final agricultural property in the auction comprised 110 acres of arable land at Powk Hall Farm, near the village of Claverley, which was sold in five lots, ranging in size from nearly 16 acres to 29.5 acres.
Lot one, comprising 6.33 acres, sold for £130,000 (£7,960 per acre), lot two - 26.76 acres - made £130,000 (£4,857 per acre), lot three - 20 acres - made £140,000 (£7,000 per acre), lot tour - 17.5 acres - made £128,000 (£7,314 per acre) and lot five - 29.5 acres - made £135,000 (£4,572 per acre). The average price for the farmland was £6,027 per acre.
"The sale of the land forming part of Powk Hall created much excitement around the village, with mainly local interest providing healthy competition," said auctioneer Roger Sadler, a director of Halls.
