SEPRA Market Report - 3rd October 2014

Everyone seems to be saying the market is quiet, not a great deal of demand, but there is not a lot of eggs about particular Free Range.

It is national egg week next week if it increases demand and it usually does as BEIC will be spending some money on advertising, every image of eggs, egg dishes or even hens stimulates the psychological which often relates to the purchase of product and increases demand.

The question is then where are the eggs going to come from and will the large supermarkets allow a price increase if we end up in a shortage situation which looks like being a possibility in the February to Easter period.

Have you organised any promotion for next week for your eggs don’t just rely on the quality and freshness of your product, advertise the fact and your local image, customers want to know where their eggs come from how they are produced and where every stimulus to demand helps.

Last week we missed out on an email from Joe Kirk our Scottish head inspector for eggs and poultry confirming that post referendum it is business as usual, the first ministers statement was attached which is included this week.
