A woman broke her arm during a female arm-wrestling competition at a young farmers’ event in Cumbria on Saturday.
The 20-year-old farmer had been taking part in an event at the Young Farmers' Clubs (YFC) Northern District Field Day in Irthington, Cumbria on Saturday (26 May).
Her opponent became “very upset” and fainted, according to paramedic Andrew Dickinson, partner at Kentdale First Aid.
Mr Dickinson was on hand to provide medical assistance. He told the BBC the woman was given pain relief until an ambulance quickly arrived.
He said: “She broke her arm while wrestling with another girl. It was a bad break and she was in a lot of pain.
“The other girl realised she had broken her arm and fainted. The team were straight on to her, she was fine.”
However, despite the incident, Mr Dickinson said the rest of the day was “fantastic”.
He added “Other that, the day was fantastic. It ended with a dance which 600 people attended and we were on site until 1.30am”
The arm-wrestling competition was one of more than 100 events at the annual event, which was attended by more than 800 young farmers from 15 clubs across Cumbria.
Cumbria Federation of Young Farmers is made up of 25 clubs, split into two districts Northern District which consists of 15 clubs and Southern District which consists of 10 clubs.
