Tesco Enjoy the Taste of Scotland

Tesco becomes the Toast of the Square

Thousands braved the downpours and flocked to Glasgow’s George Square to sample Tesco’s ’Enjoy the Taste of Scotland’ event.

Over 100 exhibitors were showcased at Scotland’s largest free food and drink event. The bustling stands attracted visitors from all over the country who were keen to meet, try and buy direct from some of Tesco’s local Scottish suppliers.

From fragrant herbs and the first of this years summer berries, to creamy island cheeses and finely crafted ales, an array of new product launches and many old favorites took centre stage.

The Celebrity Cookery Theatre was packed to capacity, with visitors eager to see Scotland’s leading chefs in action. With interactive cookery demonstrations from an array of Michelin starred chefs, the varied events programme was an instant hit with food lovers keen to hone their skills.

Show highlights included a cook-off between Clyde 1 and 2 radio DJ’s Des McLean and Dean Parks, children’s football training sessions with Celtic and Rangers Community Coaches and live appearances from Highland Heartbeat who entertained the crowd with renditions of songs from their debut album, Belonging.

The event was officially opened on Friday by the Secretary of State for Scotland Jim Murphy who praised the Scottish food and drink industry and Tesco’s commitment to Scottish suppliers.

Lynne Roxburgh Scottish Marketing Manager for Tesco said "The event was a celebration of Scottish food and drink - and the Scots certainly know how to celebrate! It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying the wealth of Scottish products on offer, from Highland Game’s venison sausages to Highland Heartbeat singing live!"

In addition to raising awareness of Scottish food and drink the event also raised over £3,000 for ’The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign’ Tesco’s Charity of the Year, through the sale of re-usable event bags and generous donations from exhibitors and visitors to the event.
