Raughton Head YFC veteran, Richard Potts, is the NFU North West’s new policy adviser for the environment.

Richard, who is 29 years old and studied Agriculture with Honours in Rural Resource Management at Newcastle University, has been seconded to the NFU from Natural England for 12 months to cover for Helen Forrester whilst she’s on maternity leave.

Richard has always been on or around farms. As a boy he followed and helped his farm worker father on farms in North Cumbria, he took a summer job harvesting at Nocton in Lincolnshire and when travelling he spent six months milking in New Zealand.

Professionally, Richard has worked at Armstrong Watson as a trainee agricultural consultant before moving on to Natural England where he has spent the last two and a half years promoting the Environmental Stewardship scheme.
