NIGERIA.
BOVINE PLEUROPNEUMONIA.
The disease bovine pleuro-pneumonia once common in cattle has been eradicated around the world for decades, yet has returned to Nigeria in epidemic proportions.
Dr Lami Lombin the Executive Director of the National Veterinary Research Institute, raised the alarm last week, claiming that if not prevented, this could wipe out the cattle herd of Nigeria.
The symptoms are a fever the same as pneumonia, except the lungs fill with a clear jelly liquid and cause respiratory problems.
The government have obtained vaccine and the cattle are being treated.
