New extended Claas Scorpion telescopic handler range‏

CLAAS UK has extended its SCORPION telescopic handler range with the addition of three new models at the top end of the range. At the same time the whole range has made the move to TIER III engines, which has resulted in some models benefiting from an increase in power output.

Across the whole SCORPION range the specification has also been tailored around transmission type.

The addition of the three new models, the SCORPION 7040 and 9040 VARIPOWER, and the SCORPION 7045 VARIPOWER PLUS now mean that a total of seven Kramer-built SCORPION models are now available, ranging from the SCORPION 6030-120, which can lift 3.3 tonnes to 6.25 metres to the top of the range SCORPION 9040-140 capable of lifting 4.0 tonnes to 8.95 metres.

As part of the revised specification for 2008, there is now just the choice of two TIER III compliant Deutz engine sizes – 120hp as before and a new 140hp option, a rise of 5hp.

Depending on model, the SCORPION is fitted with either the CLAAS VARIPOWER or the VARIPOWER PLUS stepless transmission, both of which have a maximum 40kph forward speed.

In its standard format, the two-range VARIPOWER transmission has a 45 degree swash angle on the hydraulic motor to give it the ability to go from 0 to 40kphs steplessly. The benefit of the VARIPOWER transmission over a standard hydrostatic transmission is that it provides far greater tractive power.

On VARIPOWER PLUS models, a second fixed displacement booster motor provides improved performance, especially on the road.

All SCORPION VARIPOWER models are powered by a 120hp engine and the specification includes a 110l/min gear pump with all the main transmission and boom functions controlled using a multi-function servo joystick. The specification also includes air-conditioning, three steering modes, floating pallet tines and a rear automatic hitch with trailer braking.

Additional features on the three VARIPOWER PLUS models include a 150l/minute load-sensing hydraulic system, boom suspension, air seat.

The addition of these three new models means that CLAAS is now able to offer four 4.0 tonne SCORPION models of 120hp or 140hp with lift heights of 7.1m or 8.95m. With the new SCORPION 7045-140, there is now also the option of a higher capacity machine, giving the ability to lift 4.4 tonnes to 7.1m.
