An agricultural, plant and haulage contractor in South Devon is beating the credit crunch by preparing to open a brand new depot and boost local employment, with support from South West insurance firm Cornish Mutual.
T.Vallance and Son, based at Liverton near Newton Abbot, is expanding the business by opening the new distribution facility in Wellington, Somerset. The company is appointing a new sales representative and mechanic to be based at the site, just off the M5.
Owned by Sam Vallance and his wife Jacqui, the contractors have recently secured a franchise to become the main supplier of Valtra tractors in the region and have launched a new parts store at Liverton.
Sam says they are proud of their achievements and expansion: "We’re very excited that we’re looking to new ventures. T.Vallance is a family-run business that was started by my grandfather and we’ve been trading for over forty years. We now employ nearly 30 members of staff and we’ve got a great team working with us; they work hard and offer a great service.
He adds: "We supply reliable tractors and machinery with an emphasis on value for money. It’s about trust and many of our customers have been with us for years…in the same way that we’ve been customers of Cornish Mutual for decades."
Cornish Mutual has provided insurance for T.Vallance for over 20 years including farm, business, vehicle and livestock through to special events cover. Around 45 fleet vehicles are insured along with buildings including workshops, offices and the family home.
Local Cornish Mutual Inspector John Amery has been looking after the firm: "They’ve been my customers from the outset and my Uncle was looking after Sam’s family previously, so not only do we have a great working relationship and understanding of their needs, but there’s a personal relationship there too. We’re helping with advice and support around the new parts of the business, so it’s exciting times ahead for T.Vallance and Son."
T.Vallance and Son currently provides agricultural, plant, haulage and waste and recycling services to customers across the whole of the South West.
Jacqui Vallance explains: "With our business growing, it’s important to make sure we’re covered for the new depot, stores and machinery and with Cornish Mutual, they’ve made this process pretty straightforward. John, our Inspector, is a familiar face and because we’re changing the company, doing different things all the time, it’s good to call John and be able to ask him questions and check whether insurance needs changing or we need to add to policies."
