The NFU has welcomed Lidl’s decision to increase the price it pays for its milk to 28p per litre.

Lidl’s announcement states that will increase the price it pays farmers through its processors. The change will come into effect from Monday.

Chairman of the NFU Dairy board Rob Harrison said that it was a positive step in the right direction. He said: “We have been explaining the dire straits that many farmers are facing to the public and to retailers. There has been overwhelming public support from the general public and we are pleased to see that Lidl has recognised this and is taking action to help ensure farmers get a fair price.”
