Kantor takes to the stage with Broadway Star

The new and advanced adjuvant Kantor is now recommended for use with the wheat herbicide Broadway Star. Based on a patented alkoxylated triglyceride blend, Kantor offers effective enhancement of a number of partner products with the benefit of an excellent operator and environmental safety profile. It joins a list of adjuvants including Spartan that can be used with this grass-weed herbicide.

"Kantor is the first real step forward in adjuvant technology for many years. Extensive trials work across Europe and here in the UK with our distributor partner Masstock Arable (UK) Ltd has clearly shown that Kantor enhances the performance of other ALS-inhibitor herbicides as well as cereal fungicides and growth regulators, improving performance and increasing return on investment," says Alan East, Technical Manager for Interagro UK Ltd.

Launched this year, the new herbicide Broadway Star from Dow AgroSciences (a.i. pyroxsulam and florasulam) is an ALS-inhibitor herbicide which should be used with an adjuvant. Formulated as a WDG, Broadway Star controls wild-oats, rye-grass, brome and an excellent range of broad-leaved weeds including cleavers, chickweed, field pansy, speedwell, Geranium species, mayweeds, poppy, charlock and volunteer rape. A contact-acting herbicide, Broadway Star requires the addition of an adjuvant and development work has shown that adjuvants such as Kantor and Spartan will be appropriate partners. Dilwyn Harris of Dow AgroSciences says he has no doubt that Kantor will be an excellent adjuvant for Broadway Star.

Alan East explains that Kantor’s novel penetrative and spreading activity moves the product across the plant surface and takes it into the plant quicker. "This means that more of the active gets into the plant more rapidly, resulting in better performance."

"Not only does Kantor work very well but it also has a very advantageous safety profile. It is safe to use, even near water courses, and safe to the operator. If growers have a choice of two products with similar actions, there is pressure from legislation to choose the one with the better safety profile. Quite a few adjuvants have hazard symbols on their labels and some have environmental warnings too, but Kantor has a clean label with no hazard symbols, making it the obvious choice for both efficacy and safety," says Alan.

Kantor is applied at a 0.15% spray volume. At 100 litres of water per hectare, this is 150 mls/ha of Kantor and at 200 litres of water per hectare, it is 300 mls/ha. It is packed in a 5 litre pack and is available throughout the UK from Masstock Arable (UK).
