Fertiliser identification system aids more accurate spreader calibration for non-branded products

A new card identification system allowing farmers to calibrate Kuhn spreaders to operate as accurately as possible with imported and/or non-branded fertiliser products has been developed by the Telford-based company.

The system is based on a set of coded visual identification cards that enable farmers to match products with pre-tested standards, thereby allowing them to set up their machines most appropriately for the physical characteristics of different fertilisers.

"We already provide calibration charts for all our machines for over forty specified products or product types, but there are far more fertilisers than this in existence when you take into account all the different straights, blends, compounds, and grades of urea," explains Kuhn UK's technical sales manager Robert Garthwaite.

"This new system is designed to provide spreader setting guidance for all products, irrespective of their formulation or origins. It should help farmers to get the very best out of their fertiliser and their Kuhn spreader."

The card system includes seven different product categories, with numerous product types within each. Codes associated with each fertiliser type can then be cross-referenced against Kuhn's spreader calibration charts to find the optimum settings for a given machine.

The system is supplied as standard with all new Kuhn fertiliser spreaders, or can be purchased for £15 plus VAT from any Kuhn dealer. Calibrations charts are supplied with Kuhn spreaders, and are also available on-line at www.kuhn.co.uk (Services section). On-line charts provide settings for fertilisers available in the UK and overseas.
