The 2012 edition of Harrison and Hetherington’s Black and White Sale held at Borderway, Carlisle will be one of the most anticipated events in the Holstein calendar.
This year’s sale takes place on Saturday December 1st and once again features “la crème de la crème” of elite dairy genetics.
The event includes consignments from Ireland, France, Germany and Holland as well as those from across the United Kingdom.
The sale totals 90 lots and includes some of the best milking cows and heifers ever sold during this sales series, including young heifers ready to flush, heifers from the world’s most prolific breeding cows, first choice heifers and embryos.
Those attending can expect to see the very best of the best in dairy cattle genetics and this year for the first time ever a Milking Shorthorn. Organisers Harrison & Hetherington are delighted to see the 26th event attract such an exceptional line up.
Lot 1 comes from the famous Marie family.
Denmire Goldwyn Marie 87 recently classified Excellent with an Excellent 91 mammary and now completes the fifth generation of cows classified Excellent. The Marie family is now internationally renowned with many chart topping sires of sons being used throughout the world and the sale will offer other great investment opportunities from this wonderful cow family.
This is the very first time the Black & White sale has featured a Milking Shorthorn. Crossing the Irish Sea from Downpatrick will be Sunrise Reflection Marcia. Her dam was first heifer in milk at Balmoral this spring and is one the best young cows in the UK. Another young cow in the sale comes from Lot 25 presenting Lynholme Gold Wishes who was the Northern Dairy Expo Junior Champion for 2012.
The animals in this sale will compliment the very heart and soul of the best herds in the world today and together represent one of the finest assemblages of registered dairy cattle to be presented by auction. Glyn Lucas, Harrison & Hetherington’s Head Pedigree Dairy Auctioneer describes the impact this sale has on the industry;
“The industry has progressed to amazing heights with the advent of genomics, in-vitro fertilization and sexed embryos and the Black & White sale is the single best stage for breeders in the UK to market their animals. Each lot has the ability to be the next great show winner, bull mother, genomic chart topper, embryo donor or brood cow. They will all have an impact on the breed for many years to come.”
“The sale catalogue is flush with animals leading the way in terms of genetics and milk production. Sahara Numero Uno Jane is the entry with the highest genomic ranking in the sale and over half the animals this year have a genomic index, many ranking high for GTPI and on individual traits.”
The number one PLI heifer in the UK is Warnelview Ruby Iota. Her dam is the number two PLI cow in the UK, Warnelview Goldwyn Ruby who recently classified Excellent 94, this is the first time any progeny have ever sold from this outstanding cow.
“Over the years this sale has gone from strength to strength and is now a real highlight for pedigree breeders in the UK. A sale of this calibre is only possible with the support of those in the industry, and I would like to thank the farmers and breeders for giving us the opportunity to market such remarkable animals. I’m confident that all have the potential to return immediate and impressive returns on your initial investment”.
