The team behind an innovative beef business are celebrating after being shortlisted in three prestigious awards.

Tibthorpe based The Yorkshire Wagyu Company has reached the final in the Beef Innovator of the Year category of the British Farming Awards; in the Best New Business category in the York Press Awards and in the Best Start Up Business in the Chamber Bridlington and Yorkshire Coast Business Awards

Director Jonathan Shepherd is delighted with the shortlist success: "This is the first time that we've entered any awards, so we were amazed, but obviously very pleased, to reach the final of not one, but three awards."

The team at The Yorkshire Wagyu Company will find out whether they have won the respective awards at ceremonies in October and November.

After two years spent establishing one of the biggest herds of pure bred Wagyu beef in the UK, Wolds farmers Jonathan Shepherd and Jim Bloom launched The Yorkshire Wagyu Company to sell their premium beef direct.

Wagyu beef originates from Japan where it is renowned for its flavour, tenderness and its high levels of ‘good' monounsaturated fats that give the beef its characteristic marbling.

Yorkshire Wagyu is currently available on the menu at restaurants including Wolds Village, Bainton, Whites Restaurant, Beverley and the Wolds Inn at Huggate.
