ROMANIA-SMITHFIELD NEW PIG FARM.
Smithfield Farms Romania, a division of the US meat processing group Smithfield, will complete the construction of its new pig farm New Gataia, in Timis county, in 2009. The investment in the new farm is estimated at EUR 20mn (USD 26.04mn).
Currently, Smithfield has 38 farms on the domestic market and will open a further ten farms in 2009. Smithfield Farms had sales of USD 120mn (EUR 92.17mn) in 2008, up by 20% from the previous year.
Smithfield Foods’ total investments in Romania reached USD 600mn (EUR 460.87mn) in 2008.
