Farmers in North Yorkshire dodged the showers to take a good look at the latest Landini tractors during a demo day staged by John Addyman and his team at Wharfedale Tractors, Pool in Wharfedale near Leeds.
The event held at the Clarke family's Graystone Plain Farm, Hampsthwaite near Harrogate, also took in silage baling and wrapping, so farmers and contractors who called in during the day could give the tractors a decent work out.
Phil Maw, regional sales manager for Landini distributor AgriArgo UK, says the new 64-107hp Landini 4 Series attracted the attention of hill farmers needing a small tractor to work in and around tight yards and sheds, while famers on larger units and contractors using McHale equipment supplied by the dealership took a good look at the bigger machines being demonstrated.
"Farmers who take a look at a modern Landini are impressed by the style, size and specifications available," he says. "The range now goes from 45hp to 212hp, with a good choice of equipment levels throughout the range to suit different users and applications."
Among tractors in action at the Wharfedale Tractors event were the high-spec four-cylinder 6-175 Autopowershift, which has 166hp for draft work like ploughing and 175hp for hauling trailers and other towed equipment and for driving pto-powered implements.
It also has all the bells and whistles, including armrest-mounted controls, automatic range and speed powershifts for field and road use, electronic spool valves for easy control and adjustment, and cab and front axle suspension options.
The 163hp Landini 6-160L caters for operators more inclined to a 'mechanical spec' tractor. It can have a synchro or power shuttle, manual-shift transmission (with powershift option) and traditional spool valves.
Below these two in the range is the Landini 6C Series, which offers a great deal of spec options to suit different users.
The 6-140C demonstrated is the most powerful of three models - it has 130hp for draft work and 140hp for transport and pto applications from the same FPT 4.5-litre engine as used in its big brothers.
Techno spec includes gear pump hydraulics, 40kph transmission and rigid front axle and cab, while the Top version comes with higher output load-sensing hydraulics, cab suspension, front axle suspension, taller tyres and 50kph gearing if required.
Four-speed pto is available with both specs to provide 'economy' as well as 'power' gearing for the 540 and 1000rpm speeds.
