New Case IH Steiger and Magnum models celebrate powerful heritage

• Powerful new Magnum model

• Five new Steiger models

• "Gold Signature Editions" of the Steiger and Magnum tractors

Case IH has further strengthened its reputation for producing powerful, reliable tractors with the introduction of new Steiger models and a new Magnum model for 2008, which will offer more power and greater fuel economy. The new model announcements also mark an historic landmark in each range, with the Steiger range celebrating its 50th Anniversary and the Magnum range celebrating 20 years since its introduction.

To mark this event, Case IH will unveil "Gold Signature Editions" of the Steiger and Magnum tractors, which sport a distinctive and contemporary gold and red paint scheme. These limited edition tractors will carry commemorative decals, each personally signed by Randy Baker, president of Case IH. Production of the tractors will be limited to 100 Gold Signature Magnum 305 tractors and 50 Gold Signature Edition Steiger 535 tractors.

Most powerful Magnum model in history

The new Magnum 335 tractor uses Case IH's proven 9 litre engine with a new fuel-efficient design to offer more power and greater economy. The 335hp tractor features a 13 percent power growth and 47 percent torque rise, with 275hp at the PTO, enabling the Magnum tractor to handle the largest implements. The new design also reduces emissions and offers up to three per cent improvement in fuel economy, in addition to supporting the use of B20 biodiesel with adherence to Case IH's biodiesel maintenance practices.

A new 50kph transmission package is now available in the Magnum series, forming part of a haulage package that includes a suspended front axle, trailer brakes, heavy-duty drawbar and wide front and rear fenders, allowing the new Magnum to perform as well on the road as it does in the field.

The Magnum tractor's credentials are further enhanced with a new heavy-duty MFD axle design, rated to 6735kg, and new Cat IVN / III hitch and Cat IV drawbar, to meet the higher ballasting and power requirements of large modern implements. This is complemented by high-flow hydraulic system with 175 lpm capacity as standard.

Greater power and economy for Steiger tractors

Five new Steiger models, including four-wheel drive and Quadtrac® configurations, will be introduced in 2008, with peak power up to 589hp for the largest model.

The 9 litre 335hp Steiger 335 tractor is joined by three 12.9 litre models offering 385hp, 435hp and 485hp respectively with the 535hp Steiger 535 topping the range. The Steiger 485 machine features compound turbocharger technology, which routes exhaust gas to a second turbine downstream from the turbocharger. The energy from the turbine is transferred to the crankshaft through a set of reduction gears and a hydro coupling, to provide fuel efficiency gains of up to three per cent. B5 biodiesel is fully approved for all Steiger tractors, with B20 in all models, and B100 in the 385, 435 and 485 approved when used in compliance with Case IH biodiesel maintenance practices.

With Case IH Steiger customers using larger, heavier implements than ever before, several enhancements have been made to the centre-pull drawbar design, while maintaining benefits such as load distribution and power-to-the-ground. The hanger bar is now integral to the chassis, improving stress distribution, while a size increase improves bend strength by 37 per cent. The drawbar side-swing angle has been increased 29 percent, reducing front frame side loading and improving ride quality.

In an industry first, the new Steiger tractor also offers the complete AFS AccuGuide autoguidance system factory-installed. In addition, the AccuSteer™ II four-wheel drive articulated tractor system is available on the Steiger 335 model for row crop applications, where precision steering is critical. AccuSteer II allows the front frame to pivot independently of the rear, eliminating the "tail wag" associated with articulated four-wheel drive tractors for better steering control within rows.
