Man killed and son injured in Kilkenny farm accident

A man has died and another has been seriously injured following a farm accident in Kilkenny, South East Ireland yesterday evening.

The pair, understood to be father and son, were working at a farm in Clonard, Ballycallan using a loader when an accident took place involving the vehicle’s bucket at around 6.20pm.

The deceased is aged in his 60s. The younger man received a serious but non-life threatening leg injury.

The scene has been preserved ahead of a forensic examination. The Health and Safety Authority is due to visit the scene tomorrow morning.

An inspector from the Health Service Authority is currently examing the scene.


Figures from the HSA showed there were 18 deaths in agriculture reported in 2015 in Ireland, this included four child fatalities.
