The latest version of JCB’s flagship S-series agricultural wheeled loader featuring a number of improvements to further raise productivity and operator comfort and convenience levels will be in action on the silage clamp at ScotGrass 2016, the national forage conservation demonstration, on May 18 at SRUC Crichton Royal Farm, Dumfries.
The 230hp JCB 435S with new CommandPlus cab, instruments and controls will operate in turn with JCB’s 145hp TM320S telescopic wheeled loader to illustrate two of the most popular options for farmers and contractors filling silage clamps for feed or biogas digesters.
Both machines were conceived specifically for agricultural applications with high power-to-weight ratio, large tyres, good all-round visibility and lock-up torque converters for strong climbing ability and speedy road travel.
In addition, visitors to ScotGrass will be among the first to see the all-new JCB Loadall AGRI PRO telescopic handler with its DualTech VT transmission. This provides a unique combination of hydrostatic drive for low-speed precision and powershift drive for sprightly field work and road travel. The machine on static display will also celebrate JCB’s 200,000 production landmark for Loadall telescopic handlers – the World’s Number One.
New features for the JCB 435S Agri wheeled loader include:
• CommandPlus cab with more space, new controls and a quieter working environment
• 230hp Tier 4 Final engine with no costly DPF or additional servicing requirements
• One-piece power operated engine hood and separate fuel/DEF access panel
• Intelligent Clutch Cut Off brake pedal-activated transmission disconnect
• Choice of new seat-mounted joysticks or fingertip-operated controls
The 435S Agri – weighing in at around 13.6-tonne depending upon front-end and other equipment – is a favourite with contractors for silage clamp work.
Its 6.7-litre Cummins QSB engine delivers the same 230hp output as before but it meets latest emissions rules with an efficient selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system and a diesel oxidation catalyst – but no diesel particulate filter (DPF) or the regeneration process needed to periodically clear such filters.
It retains a six-speed powershift transmission, which uniquely features torque lock-up in every gear, resulting in exceptional power-efficiency when climbing a silage clamp. Operators can also exploit the machine’s towing ability using the new 15 tonne Rockinger hitch option.
In addition, when digging into a heap of manure or other materials, the new Intelligent Clutch Cut Off feature progressively disconnects the drive clutch according to brake pedal pressure – a good way to ease brake wear and tear while using engine revs to extract optimum power and flow from the 264-litre/min twin piston pump hydraulics package.
Fuel tank capacity has increased to 400 litres and keeps fill-up downtime to a minimum, resulting in more uptime and higher productivity throughout the year.
CommandPlus cab
The new CommandPlus cab making its debut on the JCB 435S Agri wheeled loading shovel is a real treat for operators.
Class-leading visibility, improved sound suppression and increased interior space make it a pleasant place to work, with faster window demisting on chilly mornings and generous storage compartments featuring alongside a choice of new seat-mounted joysticks or new fingertip electro-hydraulic multi-lever controls.
New instruments provide more comprehensive information, intuitive help menus, reversing camera display and daily service checks such as engine oil and diesel engine fluid (DEF) levels.
A second screen enables the operator to optimise the machine for different applications – by adjusting the variable auxiliary hydraulic flow rate, for example, or loader arm suspension engagement speed. The auto engine shut-off timer and engine fan reversing intervals are also adjusted through this screen.
New 360-degree LED lighting packages, electrically adjusted and heated external mirrors and new climate control air conditioning also feature with the CommandPlus cab.
There is also a new ‘set and forget’ adjustable steering column, a choice of new high-spec heated and air cooled suspension seats, a large electric cool box and even a deep pile carpet option to add to the ultimate in loading shovel cab comfort.
