British flower growers are urging romantics to celebrate Valentines Day by buying British blooms.
The flower growing industry is expecting a huge financial boost this year as Valentines Day falls on a Sunday. It is estimated that consumers could spend an extra £10 million on flowers this year.
But the fear is that much of this benefit will go abroad and into the pockets of foreign flower growers.
British grower Gill Hodgson says domestic growers have been having a difficult time trying to compete with low priced imports. She says that poor weather over the winter has made that task even harder.
