A new mobile app that combines weed and pest identification with treatment information has been launched by Bayer CropScience.
The app replaces the three individual WeedSpotter, PestSpotter and Bayer Product Manual apps launched by the firm nearly three years ago, which have proved extremely popular with users.
These allowed users to identify nearly 100 weeds and 70 pests of arable crops, or check for the latest label information about any Bayer CropScience product.
"We've taken the best elements from those three apps and combined them into a single app and made it even easier to use," explains Rachael Roberts, Bayer CropScience's digital coordinator.
The new design features many new images especially taken to aid identification of weeds and pests. All of these high quality images can now be enlarged to focus on key features, while it is now easier to use the identification tools.
"We’ve simplified the filter system for identifying weeds, making it easier to use, and added more close-up pictures to help with identifying key characteristics."
Another new feature is the ability to register for automatic updates for any information that has changed on a Bayer product, says Mrs Roberts.
"The app will always feature the latest label information but you can also sign up for automatic notifications for any changes to any or all products of interest, either through a push notification from the app, or via email.”
As with the previous apps, the Bayer Agronomy Tool app is free, and can be downloaded from the App Store for iOS devices now, while an Android version is in development.
The previous apps have been withdrawn from the Apple store and should be deleted, as they will no longer be kept up to date with the latest information, Mrs Roberts adds.
