The agricultural industry has been rocked by another death on-farm, this time a 54-year-old man from Scotland.
Farm safety procedures have been cast in the spotlight following the deaths of three farm workers in separate accidents within the space of two weeks.
On Sunday (29 April), Graham Shaw from Peattie Farm near Coupar Angus, in Perth and Kinross, died after handling bags of fertliser.
It is understood he became trapped between the forklift and a wall. Police Scotland confirmed they were called at 12:04pm to the scene of the accident.
The news follows a man in his 40s who died following an accident on a potato farm in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk on 17 April.
In the Western Isles of Scotland, 58-year-old farmer Hector McLeod was trampled to death by a herd of cows on the 24 April.
The three deaths have all occurred within the space of two weeks, highlighting the dangers the industry can pose to workers.
Agriculture remains the most dangerous profession in the UK – yet many of the fatalities and serious injuries reported each year can be easily avoided.
Figures from the HSE have revealed that in 2016/17, agriculture had the highest rate of fatal injury, around 18 times higher than the All Industry rate.
