A young Cumbrian farmer with a passion for making films about his farming life has raised £200 for farmers affected by flooding.
Sam Hutchinson, aged 13, donated the funds to the farming chairty R.A.B.I.
Although not directly affected by the floods, he saw farmers helping others on the news and ‘wanted to play his part’.
"I decided that the best way for me to make a difference was to raise some money through my YouTube channel which has a small fan base.
"I uploaded a video talking about the floods and set up a JustGiving page so that people could donate.
"I knew about R.A.B.I before the floods, but I looked for charities and organisations after I had raised the funds.
"I thought R.A.B.I was a good organisation to give the money to because it is directly linked to farming."
Growing up with farming on both sides of his family and as the son of agricultural photographer and R.A.B.I supporter, Wayne Hutchinson, it is perhaps natural that Sam’s two hobbies have combined.
Community and family
Under the name of The Herdy Man on YouTube, Sam has made over 40 insightful and fun films about of all aspects of farming life including calving, milking, bailing and attending livestock sales which have amassed over 40,000 views to date.
"I got involved in agriculture at a very young age as all of my dad’s side are involved with hill farming. Some of my friends are into farming but the majority are not.
"The thing I enjoy most about it is the community and the fact that it brings the family together.
"My favourite thing to do by far is working with my granddad and dad in the sheep pens or on the fell."
Sam’s mother, Liz Hutchinson, said: "He really has a passion for farming.
"He decided to make the video and raise donations himself so I was very pleased about that as I encourage him to give and to think about others.
"I thought it fitting that he wanted to give to farmers in need in the local area."
