Pig Stockperson - Bedfordshire

We’re recruiting for a Pig Stockperson for a family-run arable and pig farm in Bedfordshire, MK45.

About the Farm

  • The family farms 800 hectares of combinable crops and has two purpose-built pig sheds for contract-rearing pigs.

  • The straw-based buildings are run on a continuous flow system and can house up to 1000 pigs per shed.

  • The pigs are reared to supply gilts to breeding farms.

  • The pigs are initially fed creep from bags and then are ad-lib fed through an auger system.

    • Person Specifications

  • Open to all levels of experience, but some proven livestock experience would be beneficial

  • Self-motivated to achieve continuous performance improvements

  • Ability to take responsibility

  • Good communication skills

  • Driving license & car

  • Candidates must be enthusiastic and work diligently to maintain the highest standards of pig health and welfare

  • Daily checks of pigs

  • Pig husbandry medication & vaccinations

  • Pig movements

  • Selecting and weighing pigs

  • Cleaning and disinfection of pig pens and equipment

  • Accurate record-keeping with day-to-day pig administration

  • Ordering of feed, medication and other supplies

  • Liaising at regular intervals with the farm manager, vets and field staff

  • Keeping farm within RT and RSPCA Assured standards

  • Maintenance jobs

  • On quieter days, working on other projects on the farm
