Simon and Nick are third generation butchers and farmers. Their father owned Mellin’s Butchers in the nearby town of Nelson, rearing stock for the shop on their farm, where our Higham store is today.
Both boys learned the skills of butchery at a young age, wielding knives from the age of six, and since then the partnership has grown! In 2012 Simon and Nick opened Roaming Roosters Farm Shop and Bistro on the family run farm.
On the farm, they raise free-range native breed pigs, and continue to farm free range chickens and sheep.
What they don’t produce themselves they buy from local farmers, ensuring they get a fair price for what they produce. It means that they know exactly where your food has come from, and that it tastes exceptional every time.
That’s why we make sure our animals are traditionally reared, native British breeds, free-range and grass fed, because if the animals are happy you will be too.
