Bishop Burton College is one of the finest specialist land-based college’s in the country, renowned for outstanding student success.
The College specialises in Agriculture, Equine, Animal Management and Sport. It runs further education programmes in all these areas, but also has provision in many other subject areas, including Engineering, Environmental Studies and Construction, to name just a few.
The College, based in beautiful countryside close to Hull – the UK City of Culture for 2017 – and York, is the only Centre of Vocational Excellence for both Agriculture and Equine in the country.
Agriculture students benefit from real-life practical experience working on the College’s 410-hectare farm, which is split between arable and grassland for livestock including sheep, dairy and beef.
Students also get to grips with precision agriculture using state-of-the art technology and learn to operate drones to evaluate crop growth and management.
Success rates for students are some of the finest in the UK, with 97% securing employment or going on to a higher level of study within six months of finishing their course – partly due to the College’s outstanding industry partnerships with organisations including Agrii, Dunbia and ABP Food Group.
The College has its own dedicated Centre for Agricultural Innovation, which offers solutions to some of the challenges facing agriculture through a combination of land-based research, practical experience and engagement with industry partners.
Bishop Burton College also runs Riseholme College, in Lincolnshire, which recently opened a new £24million campus at Lincolnshire Showground – thought to be the first new agricultural college campus to be built in the UK in more than 50 years.
