It’s make or break time for Scottish cereal growers
For Scottish cereal growers, the next four weeks will be critical in determining the yield and quality of the crops they harvest and there is a desperate need for higher than average sunshine levels in that period, according to a leading plant scientist.
Speaking yesterday at the Cereals in Practice event on the outskirts of Perth, Dr Steve Hoad of the Scottish Agricultural College said autumn-sown crops still had the potential to give good yields but much would depend on the next month’s weather.
