UK Farmers To Benefit From RHI Scheme

Finally the RHI Scheme is open for applications. The scheme which gives commercial users of renewable energy derived heat, financial supports in accordance with their usage. Many farms, factories, processing plants, schools and offices will take advantage of this scheme in the coming months.

Although the RHI Scheme is beneficial for most sectors, farmers have a distinct advantage. "Many waste products produced by farms can be used as fuel for multi-fuel boilers" says Sean Gilbride, CEO of lakelandrenewables.co.uk.

"A poultry farmer who is one of our clients achieved a payback of two and a half years on his boiler installation, and this is without any supports like the RHI Scheme. He used poultry manure to fuel his boiler." He continues.

It’s safe to say that UK farmers have an opportunity to secure the future energy supply of their farms. This incentive makes an already attractive investment even more attractive. However, before leaping in, farmers should sit down and run through the figures.

By introducing this scheme the UK is leading the way in renewable energy. They are demonstrating that renewables can work in a developed economy. Environmentalists hope that if the RHI Scheme proves successful, a domino effect will occur, with more countries following suit.

"Advances in biomass and solar technology combined with expensive fossil fuel prices have created a perfect storm for environmentally friendly renewables. Put on top of this, the RHI Scheme and you have a fantastic opportunity to move the economy significantly towards renewables." Sean continues.

All in all, the RHI Scheme gives UK farmers a much needed leg up in the current economic environment.
