Livestock farmers coming to the 2008 Royal Smithfield Christmas Fair, sponsored by Merial, will be given the opportunity to discover the benefits of joining a supermarket producers’ club scheme.

At this year’s Fair held at the Bath and West Showground, Shepton Mallet, supermarket staff and processors will be on hand to explain many of the advantages of joining their schemes and farmers can meet key staff from some of the big store chains and processor groups. Benefits vary from store group to store group, but many include premium payments for livestock, discounted prices for veterinary medicines, feedback on animal quality and up to date information on a whole range of market and shopping trends.

The Fair is enjoying its second year at the top West Country venue since its move from London two years ago. Organised by the Royal Bath and West of England Society and the Royal Smithfield Club and sponsored by Merial, the Fair offers top class primestock classes including the prestigious Merial Overall Royal Smithfield Supreme Championship. Over the two days there will be Seminars, Demonstrations and Workshops sponsored by Farmer’s Weekly and Eblex, as well as staging the National Festival of Meat Beef Ribs Competition, the BPA National Sausage Competition and finally the Livestock Auction.

The Royal Smithfield Christmas Fair attracts livestock farmers from all over the country and they come to enjoy a show that is the showcase for the best primestock of both beef and lamb plus farm produced food and livestock equipment. A near capacity turnout of tradestands from all sections of the meat and livestock industry will give the visitor an opportunity to keep up to date with industry changes and progression.
