Sir Harry Studholme appointed head of South West RDA

The CLA has extended its congratulations to prominent CLA member, Sir Harry Studholme, who has been appointed chairman of the South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA)

Welcoming Sir Harry’s appointment to the post, CLA President Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, said: "Sir Harry has a unique appreciation of the contribution land-based industries make towards the wider economy which will be invaluable in the future policy processes of the SWRDA.

"Sir Harry’s knowledge of livestock farming, tourism and forestry coupled with his extensive business background will inform the whole debate at both regional and national level."

Sir Harry is a former chairman of the CLA’s South West Regional Committee, a member of the association’s National Forestry Committee and president and chairman of the Devon branch of the CLA. His appointment, announced this week by Business Secretary, Lord Mandelson, will see him take over as chairman of the SWRDA in July.

The CLA President added: "We are delighted that somebody with such strong rural credentials has won this appointment and we look forward to continuing to work with Sir Harry, supporting his efforts to ensure the future viability and sustainability of rural communities, the rural economy and the environment."
