Shropshire farmer, Sam Taylor, has been appointed to the post of Vice Chairman of the Organic Milk Suppliers Cooperative (OMSCo), the leading and longest established organic dairy cooperative in the UK. In addition to this important role, he continues in his position as Chair for the OMSCo Membership Committee.

In these roles, he becomes the leading non-executive on the board and will be representing the interests of OMSCo’s 400+ members. As a producer member, he understands the unique pressures facing organic dairy farmers and the appointment will reinforce the focus on farming and membership issues within the organisation.

Sam graduated from Reading University with a degree in Agricultural Economics, before returning to the 700 acre family farm in Shropshire. In 2000 he made the decision to convert to organic production and now has a herd of 250 organic cows, as well as growing organic cereals and potatoes.

OMSCo’s Executive Chairman, Nicholas Saphir, comments: "Sam is one of our longest serving members and has been part of the OMSCo board since 2003. I’m absolutely delighted that he has accepted the post of Vice Chairman. He is a first class organic dairy farmer, with a deep understanding of the intricacies of the organic dairy market and the problems facing our members in the current economic climate."

Sam adds: "I am more than happy to take on these essential roles and I look forward to representing the interests and concerns of my fellow OMSCo members. I hope to be part of the continued success of the cooperative."

Sam is married to Sara and they have four grown up children. As well as running the farm, he is also a governor of two secondary schools.
