SAC Hosts Visit By Turkish Organic Specialists
Twenty Turkish organic agriculture specialists visited SAC at its Aberdeen campus, Craibstone Estate in April (20th and 27th) as part of a 15 month EuropeAid project programme which is being
managed by SAC International.
The project is helping the Turkish government align its organic agricultural legislation with that of the EU, strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) to supervise, control and promote organic farming and implement inspection and certification systems in accordance with EU requirements. It will
also help develop advisory activities in Turkey with the aim of improving food quality and environmental protection
The visit to Craibstone enabled the delegation to hear from leading organic consultants, researchers and teachers about the science of organic farming and how advice and learning opportunities are made
available in Scotland through SAC. The programme included: presentations from David Younie, Caroline Bayliss, Christine
Watson, Norman Stephen and Richard Huxtable; a visit to the Thainstone Agricultural Centre, including SAC's office there; and a tour of the Craibstone Organic Farm.
