OMSCo Nurtures Organic Farming Careers with £5,000 Bursary

The Organic Milk Suppliers Cooperative (OMSCo) has launched its annual bursary awards scheme to encourage young people carve a career in organic dairy farming.

Now in its fourth year, the programme helps further agricultural studies in the organic sector, helping to strengthen its future. The cooperative has allocated up to £5,000 in financial support to young farmers, as part of its commitment.

Richard Hampton, marketing director at OMSCo, said: "The future success of organic dairy farming depends on young people with energy and new ideas choosing it as a career. We believe it is essential to nurture interest in this sector and encourage the next generation to stay in farming.

"It is tough starting out in any career and our bursary scheme has been a very popular initiative since it started four years ago. It enables us to help our young farmers forge a career in the organic sector by supporting them through a range of courses, from Foundation to BSC Degrees in Agriculture."

The bursary is available to OMSCo members, their immediate families, and employees on OMSCo farms. The recipients will be judged on an individual basis, although priority will be given to those planning to study for a practical agricultural qualification.

Applicants must be 25 or under at the commencement of the period of study and the course or studies must be directly related to organic dairy farming.

Closing date for applications is 5 September 2009. For more information contact Janey Williams on 01934 511115
