Mick Crockford and Sarah Scrope have been appointed as the new Chairman and President of the Newbury & District Agricultural Society, at the Society’s AGM held yesterday in the British Legion Hall, Newbury.
Mick Crockford who resides in East Ilsley, originally from Minehead, Exmoor will succeed Simon Carter in becoming the Society’s Chairman in its 101st year. Mick has been involved with the Society for over 30 years, specifically as the Royal County of Berkshire Show’s Chief Steward and Chairman of the Pig Section.
Mick, who owns a couple of Gloucester Old Spot Pigs said: "I am delighted to take on the post of Chairman and I cannot wait to get started. My priority for this year lies in education, continuing the strong work the Society has done for many years in teaching schools about food and where it comes from."
Sarah Scrope will become the new President, taking over from Charlie Mayfield of the John Lewis Partnership. Sarah is the manager of Hungerford’s spectacular Chilton Estate, having lived there for most of her life. A committee member of the Berkshire CLA, Sarah has followed in the presidential footsteps of her Grandfather Colonel Jackie Ward and her father Gerald Ward who were also Presidents of the Show back in 1950 and 1974 respectively.
Sarah said: "I am proud to be the third generation in my family to be given the honour of being President of the Newbury and District Agricultural Society and our fantastic County Show. I relish the opportunity to work alongside an impressive army of knowledgeable and enthusiastic people, who give huge amounts of their time every year, in demonstrating the diversity and importance of rural life."
The Annual Royal County of Berkshire Show will be held over the weekend of 18th/19th September 2010. Tickets will be on sale shortly.
