New editor for BCPC's The Pesticide Manual

After 17 years as editor of BCPC’s flagship publications, The Pesticide Manual (fifteenth edition) and The e-Pesticide Manual (version 5.0), Dr Clive Tomlin is retiring. He hands over to Colin MacBean, who for the last 20 years of his career with Syngenta worked on the development of chemical substance and sample databases. Prior to that, he was employed as an information specialist for the insecticide and herbicide project teams.

Dr Tomlin took on the role of editor in 1992, when the manual was in its ninth edition, the subsequent edition then incorporated The Agrochemicals Handbook which had previously been published by The Royal Society of Chemistry. In 1998, alongside the printed publication, he produced the first Electronic Pesticide Manual as a CD-Rom which, in 2009, became fully downloadable online.

Following his appointment Mr MacBean said "During my long career in agrochemical research, I found the successive editions of The Pesticide Manual to be a valuable and pre-eminent source of well-indexed information about commercial pesticides. I look forward to playing a part, along with the providers of the information, in maintaining the enviable reputation, established by Dr Tomlin and his predecessors in further developing the triennial publication and The e-Pesticide Manual."

Mr MacBean is also keen to find out from users and potential users how they would like both products to be developed in the coming years.
