NFU Mutual board member joins Farm Safety Partnership

John Calver, Regional Manager at NFU Mutual, the UK's leading rural insurer has recently joined the Farm Safety Partnership board to help promote a culture of health and safety in the farming industry.

The Farm Safety Partnership, with representatives from a range of agricultural organisations, works with farming families to reduce accidents and save lives.

Calver, said: “By highlighting the most common causes of farm accidents and providing people with some simple safety tips, the Farm Safety Partnership will hopefully prove a catalyst for farmers up and down the country to review their health and safety practices.”

Reflecting on the recently launched NFU Mutual Farm Safety First campaign, John understands the importance of not only raising awareness of the dangers of working on farms, but also changing farmers’ behaviour.

Calver continued: “The partnership aims to provide leadership to improve the safety of farms and allied industries and to help reduce the numbers of deaths and major injuries to farmers, workers and anyone else coming into contact with farming activities.

“I’m very keen to help spread the safety message across the UK, to help save lives and to keep farmers and farm workers out of harm’s way.”

John has 33 years’ experience in rural insurance and risk management. This gives him a unique insight into the effects of farm safety negligence from both a financial, personal and social perspective.
