Kuhn to display new range at AgriScot

The latest Axis fertiliser spreader and PolyLonger hedgecutter will be among the machines being displayed by Kuhn Farm Machinery at this year’s AgriScot show at Ingliston on Wednesday 19th November.

Kuhn Farm Machinery will have a range of grassland, landscape maintenance and feeding and bedding machinery on display on its stand at this year’s AgriScot event (stand number 180 in the Lowland Hall).

Amongst the machines on display will be the mechanically-driven version of its EMC (Electronic Mass Control) equipped Axis 40.1 twin-disc fertiliser spreader. Initially only available on Kuhn’s hydraulically driven spreaders the EMC system is now available on mechanical-drive (PTO-drive) Axis models.

The main benefit of the EMC system is the constant measurement of mass flow (kg/min) at the point of application, independently at each disc, allowing the machine to then adjust aperture size on the move to maintain a target application rate. This is achieved on mechanical drive machines by measuring the torsion in the drive shafts for each of the discs, with this measurement being correlated with mass flow to give the machine accurate information about the amount of fertiliser being applied.

Mechanical drive models (Axis M EMC) are typically priced approximately 20–30% below the price of the equivalent hydraulic drive (Axis H EMC) models, therefore allowing more users to benefit from the EMC technology.

The EMC system avoids the need for conventional static calibration testing, as the machine makes the adjustments automatically from simple pre-programmed data. As such, 100% of settings for the machine are carried out from inside the tractor cab. EMC also offers the significant advantages over conventional weigh cell systems of providing information and control in relation to each side of the machine independently and also maintaining accuracy in hilly conditions.

Also on display at AgriScot will be Kuhn’s Poly-Longer long-reach hedgecutter, which is now available with an optional 1.5m flail head. This new head unit is fitted with 28 T-flails as opposed to 24 on the standard 1.2m head, thereby increasing the Poly-Longer’s working capacity and overall reach.

The standard 1.2m head is also now available with a mechanically sliding head which improves reach and manoeuvrability, particularly into more difficult-to-access areas. This SRS (Shift Rail System) mechanism provides +/- 40cm of movement on the flail head.

Poly-Longer hedgecutters are available with a choice of single lever on/off electronic controls or electronic proportional controls from a joystick, with the latter providing the ultimate in operator-friendly operation. Overall, the Poly-Longer is robust and simple-to-operate, featuring a parallelogram arm design which allows a single control to operate the main and outer booms simultaneously.
