Hamish Mulcock joins NIAB as new certification manager

NIAB has appointed Hamish Mulcock as its Technical Manager for Certification within the Agricultural Crop Characterisation team.

Based at Cambridge, Mr Mulcock takes an immediate role within NIAB, responsible for the delivery of the statutory seed certification programme that the organisation conducts on behalf of FERA. This includes the administration, set-up and management of certification plots for all cereal and oilseed crop species, and the organisation of official crop inspections and training courses for crop inspectors and other interested parties.

NIAB’s Head of Crop Characterisation Elizabeth Scott says: “It’s great news that Hamish has joined our Agricultural Crop Characterisation team, part of NIAB’s traditional core business. His background in agronomy will open up new opportunities for the role enabling us to develop new services and training courses. His appointment is part of NIAB’s continued investment and development of the ACC team, showing our long-term commitment to the UK seeds industry and certification customers.”

Previous to joining NIAB Mr Mulcock worked in the New Zealand seed industry as an agronomist for Agriseeds (Barenbrug), and more recently PGG Wrightson Seeds. During this time he managed multiple research and development programmes evaluating brassica and pasture cultivars, seed treatments, herbicide treatments and silage maize hybrids across both New Zealand and Australia.
