Government 'indifferent' to HS2 compensation, says CLA

The Government announcement on HS2 safeguarding continues to ignore the issue of compensation, according to the Country Land and Business Association.

"Those choosing not to seek early purchase were offered no comfort by the announcement which continued to ignore the issue of adequate compensation," the group said.

CLA President Harry Cotterell said: “While we welcome the announcement of safeguarding allowing early purchase of property, the Government cannot continue to ignore the issue of adequate compensation

“Those landowners wanting to stay put may suffer from further stagnation and uncertainty in the property market as HS2 will be able to veto any planning applications.

“Adequate compensation must be prioritised by the Government and we have called for HS2 to introduce a Property Bond Scheme to help those blighted by the project.”
