Auctioneer Halls reported an 'excellent' entry and trade in dairy cattle from start to finish at Shrewsbury Auction Centre on Tuesday with in-milk heifers averaging £2,057 and peaking at £2,500.
A cow due to have her third calf in February from P. and C. Kynaston, Weston Lullingfields sold for £1,790 for and a second calver from J. P. and H. M. Davies, Crew Hill made £1,700.
Heifers averaged £2,057, with Neale Sadler topping the section with one of his Quinabrook herd by Burt selling at £2,500, beating Richard Howard into second place at £2,480 with a heifer by Janner.
James Richards sold a Hafesp heifer by Design at £2,450, Mr Howard sold a Topshot heifer at £2,400 and S. J. Pickering sold a Cogent Prestwick heifer at £2,250.
The first monthly catalogue sale of dairy youngstock produced a good entry and trade. In-calf heifers sold to £1,900 for P. H. Parry, Emstrey by Copywood Sarson Red and in-calf to Brookroad Millionaire. Others from this home realised £1,850 and £1,750.
Bulling heifers peaked at £1,060 from Ashowen (D. M. J. Owen & Co) by Longfont Speedster and Debbie Jo Decker and heifer calves sold to £410.
A young Simmental bull sold at £1,150 and two Hereford bulls made £1,440 and £960.
Next Tuesday’s auction include an entry of 20 Ashowen bulling heifers while February 4 sees an entry of 46 cows from Messrs Mansell.
